Bringing in the Harvest
Since 1713!
For 297 years, Spring Brook Farm has been supplying Littleton, MA and the surrounding area with quality, flavorful produce at affordable prices.

Spring Brook Farm is currently managed and operated by Frank Matheson, Jr. and has been in his family and in continuous operation since 1713.

The farm consists of 440 acres in two parcels and is the largest working farm in the local area.

The Matheson's agricultural philosophy is simple. They practice environmentally-friendly, sustainable agriculture and use the latest in Integrated Pest Management methods in conjunction with the University of Massachusetts IPM program to minimize environmental impact. A lot may have changed in the technology of farming since 1713, but the family's passion for farming and its commitment to the community remains unaltered.

The Mathesons understand that the great American tradition of family farms does more than put food on the table, it brings together local families and strengthens the community. In 2002, Spring Brook Farm opened its Country Store and created a new venue for neighbors to meet and mingle in a bright, welcoming environment.

Bringing in the Harvest
Since 1713!

Even before Littleton was incorporated, Spring Brook Farm was providing quality vegetables and fruit to the residents of Nashoba Plantation. From the first, John Proctor and his descendents have put agriculture and community as priorities in their lives. Proctor was given the land by the King of England in honor of his service during the French-Indian wars. Since then, his descendents have continued to step forward to contribute to their community.

The challenges faced by the Mathesons today are different than those faced by their ancestors, but their love of the land and their community remains the same. Today, they work hard every day to keep land in agriculture so they can continue to provide fresh, quality products to the people of Littleton and the surrounding area.

Buy Local and Contribute to Your Community!
Why is buying local and supporting our local farms so important?

When you buy local:
• your dollars stay in the community and help strengthen our local economy.
• you help protect the environment by reducing the energy used to bring food from field to table.
• you assist in preserving open space and wildlife habitats by keeping land in agriculture.
• you are keeping an important part of our American heritage alive—the family farm!

What is a locavore?
A locavore is a person who strives to eat only foods grown and harvested within a set radius of their home, often between 100 and 250 miles.

The concept began in California where a group of self-proclaimed “concerned culinary adventurers” decided to challenge themselves to only eat food grown or harvested within 100 miles of their homes in and around San Francisco.

The project was a huge success and has gained national acclaim. Locavore was the 2007 Oxford American Dictionary’s “Word of the Year”! Now, locavores are found across the country as more and more people realize the wonderful benefits of buying local.

Fabulous and Fresh
Local culinary adventurers can find a diverse selection of quality local vegetables, fruits, cheeses, milk, baked goods and more at Spring Brook Farm's Country Store.
